May 25, 1977 - 32 years ago......

Yesterday we began our 32nd year of serving the Lord in the pastorate, PTL! It was on May 25, 1977, that we drove our Pontiac LeMans ('72) with boxes of book, wedding gifts, and one chair (the only furniture we had!!) behind us out to Newell, Iowa. Bob had just graduated from Grace Theological Seminary in Winona Lake, Indiana, and we were on our our way to our first pastorate!

As we drove into Newell, (it was a beautiful warm afternoon) we saw Dale Christiansen (one of the men from our church) next to the road with a load of soybeans that had overturned into the ditch! The sights and smells of the farm were something that we city kids didn't know much about!

We stopped in Newell and used a pay phone booth right on the corner of the tiny one-block town of Newell to call Harold Jorgenson (one of the decons) to tell him we had arrived. The police chief, who attended Bethel, was driving around, and spotted us, and stopped. He gave us a warm welcome as he took us into the jail before we went out to Harold's home for dinner as he gave us directions to their home. What a way to start out as pastor!

We served 7 years in Newell, and then God called us to Manton, Michigan, where we have been for the past 25 years.

It was the start of a great adventure of faith that May day, and one we are still enjoying, thanks to the grace and mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ!

Our little "PK's" (preacher's kids) were all born in Newell, and mainly grew up in Manton. What a joy it is to see them "walking in the truth" and serving the Lord. It was through the love, kindness and godly examples of so many from both churches that have made them love God's people so much!

We love you all so much...thank you for loving us, taking such great care of us, and supporting us all these many years in ministry.

To God Be The Glory, Great Things He Has Done!"

A wonderful Reunion

The Georgeff family

The singing group and bell choir from CBI

We received a call at 3:30pm from David and Phyllis Georgeff ... friends of ours that we haven't seen for 25 years asking if we could come to Clare to see them. David is now a professor at Cornerstone Bible Institute in South Dakota, and the choir and bell choir are on tour through several states, Michigan being one of them. We drove just over an hour, and had a great hour visiting with them before the program began at 7:3opm. The choir did an outstanding job, and their daughter is the pianist. All three of their children attend CBI. We knew David when he came to our church in Newell before he was even married! He and his wife met at Applachian Bible College, and have been missionaries in Germany and England until they came to the states 3 years ago to work at Cornerstone Bible Institute. What a blessing it was to see them and be able to "catch up" with them once again! Aren't reunions great????

A Greater Love....

It all started back in 1977 when Bob and I arrived in a little farming town of Newell, Iowa for our first pastorate. One of the couples that were a vital part of our church were Dwain and Lois Holmes (and their 4 children...Dawn, DJ, Dixie, Denise). The Holmes family had an unusual exotic animal farm at their home - snakes being one of the animals that were in abundance! It was during a missions conference that Dwain came forward and told the Lord that if his animal farm would sell, he would spend the time that he did chores in Bible study and prayer. The next morning, a man called and asked to buy his farm! God answered Dwain's commitment that day!
It wasn't long until Dwain and Lois felt the call to serve God in missions. Off they went to Bible School with four little children. After graduation, God called them to Ecuador - and what a ministry they have had for over 25 years.
While we were on our trip west to be with Gary and Pam Stauffer, we stopped at a church in Iowa for their Wednesday night service, which happened to be their AWANA Awards night! While looking at their bulletin, we saw that Dwain and Lois had been there Sunday night to share their work. We got their phone number from the pastor of the church where they were staying, and we were able to meet them for breakfast Thursday morning. What a reunion it was for us! We haven't seen Dwain and Lois for 25 years - but what a wonderful work they are doing for the Lord. It was such a joy to share with them, and see their powerpoint while sitting in McDonalds! They are here in the states until July - rejoicing in the birth of a new grandbaby...Jordyn who was born May 10 and weighed in at 7 lbs 3 oz and is 20' long.
God gave Dwain and Lois a love for exotic animals...namely snakes, and Dwain has captured over 200 snakes in Ecuador which he keeps in containers, or for the ones that are very exotic, he sends them to scientists in Quito who study them and put them on display. Some of the natives there have captured over 1600 snakes for Dwain! Just recently, he captured a snake that has never been cataloged, and it may even be named after him! God knew what he was doing when he sent Dwain to Ecuador....they traded the love of one animal farm in Iowa to a mission field where he still enjoys exotic animals while serving the Lord!

Courthouse and Jail Rocks...

Just down the road from the home of Gary and Pam Stauffer is "Courthouse and Jail Rocks," which are two of the most famous landmarks of the mid 1800's westward migration.
Courthouse and Jail Rocks, rising some 400 feet above the North Platte Valley, are erosional remnants composed of clay, sandstone and volcanic ash. We walked up as close as we could to the rocks - they are just breathtaking! One of the pictures is looking into the crevice of the earth by the rocks. We were told later that there are a lot of rattle snakes around there...glad we didn't meet up with one!

Our AWANA Fairmont Fair

We had a great Fairmont Fair on Wednesday night finishing out the AWANA year. Our theme was "In God We Trust." Here are just a few pictures of several booths...all pictures will be up on the church web page soon (www.rollinschurch.org) . The White House was made by Phil and Carol Skinner - they are always so creative!
